Engagements we run
What this work looks like in practice.
We are usually retained on matters that turn on digital evidence. Common scopes:
- Computer forensics of laptops, desktops, and servers under a litigation hold or as part of a production response.
- Mobile forensics of iPhones and Android devices for family law, criminal, employment, and commercial matters. Including chip-off, JTAG, and ISP for damaged or locked devices.
- Cloud forensics of Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Teams, and AWS for matters where the evidence lives in cloud tenants.
- Expert witness retainers for affidavits, expert reports, joint reports, and trial testimony.
- Anton Piller order execution with onsite forensic imaging and chain of custody documented for the court.
What clients tell us matters most
Priorities we hear from this industry.
Defensibility under cross-examination. Every step we take is documented to a standard that holds up in front of an opposing expert. Methodology, tools, hash verification, chain of custody. Nothing improvised.
Reports written for the bench. Counsel does not want to translate a 60-page technical report into court-readable language. Our reports are structured for the audience who will read them: judges, opposing counsel, and the client.
Speed when it matters. Anton Piller, urgent injunctions, expedited motions. We have moved on engagements within hours when the matter required it.
Privilege protection. Engagements taken through counsel are documented to support a litigation-privilege claim. We sign NDAs as standard. Communication channels are structured for privilege from the first call.
Independence. The expert duty under White Burgess Langille Inman v. Abbott and Haliburton Co., 2015 SCC 23, is to assist the court, not the retaining party. Our reports reflect that. Counsel does not have to argue with us about findings; the findings are what they are.

Learn moreCommon questions
Law Firms questions we hear most.
Do you take engagements through counsel for privilege?
Yes. This is the standard structure for our litigation engagements. Retention agreement, communications, and work product are designed to support a litigation-privilege claim. We sign NDAs as standard.
Can you support an Anton Piller order execution?
Yes. We have run forensic imaging on Anton Piller executions in BC. Our examiners attend the execution, image the relevant devices on-site, and document chain of custody for the court.
What does an expert affidavit cost?
Cost depends on scope. A single-device examination with a Rule 11-compliant report is typically a defined-scope engagement. Multi-custodian and trial-testimony matters are typically billed hourly with an estimate at scoping. We give a written estimate before any work begins.
Do you produce in Relativity load file format?
Yes, plus Reveal, Nuix, Everlaw, DISCO, and any other major review platform. Production protocol is agreed before processing begins.
How do you handle joint expert engagements?
We accept joint expert engagements when both parties consent and counsel agree to the protocol. Joint format is common in BC family law and civil matters where parties want to avoid duelling-expert cost and complexity.
How quickly can you scope a new matter?
Most matters are scoped the same day as the initial call, often within a few hours. Urgent matters are prioritized immediately. We aim to deliver a written scope and timeline before any forensic work begins.
